Investment Projects and Their Role in Mitigating the Housing Deficit in Saladin Governorate
Main Article Content
Abstract
The housing shortage crisis in Iraq is among the most significant developmental challenges, directly linked to rapid population growth and the growing need for adequate housing as a vital component of quality of life after food and water. In Salah al-Din Governorate, a study in 2024 highlights the reality of residential investment projects and their impact on addressing this crisis, with emphasis on evaluating them according to urban planning standards and employing Geographic Information Systems to determine their spatial distribution. It also underscores weak investment aspects and the scarcity of geographical studies concerned with project distribution, as well as the need to evaluate projects based on standards, develop them, and clarify the housing deficit in Salah al-Din while estimating future needs using current housing data. The absence of such studies exacerbates the housing shortage and negatively affects community stability. Providing suitable housing is considered a fundamental indicator within global quality of life measurement standards, requiring effective policies to enhance investment projects and estimate future demand to meet growing needs and strengthen social reassurance.
