Abstract

Medical geography studies the patterns of geographical distribution of human diseases in order to explain them and understand the relationship between diseases and the causes of their spread in a given location. This phenomenon has a spatial presence. Hence, geographers' interest stems in studying this branch of geography. For every disease that afflicts humans, there must be contributing factors, whether through the environment in which they live, natural or human factors. The aim of this study is to identify a very serious and important health problem: chronic kidney failure, a disease caused by geographical environmental factors (natural and human), particularly the impact of the human factor, with its various influential elements such as environmental pollution, the diet, and behavior of those effected, which have contributed to the increase in cases of chronic disease in recent years in Salah al-Din Governorate. Furthermore, the study aims to uncover a range of social, psychological, and economic problems that arise and appear at the level of the patient, their family, and society as a whole. Therefore, our current study aims to identify the problems caused by kidney failure in Salah al-Din Governorate and to identify the demographic characteristics and economic and social factors of those affected by kidney failure, which will help us find appropriate solutions to reduce the spread of the disease. The researcher used a questionnaire and personal interview as a means of collecting data, along with an analytical approach. She reached a total of 754 patients with kidney failure in Salah al-Din Governorate. The study results also confirmed that the majority of kidney failure patients suffer from numerous problems, which varied from one patient to another.
