Abstract

Tikrit is one of the most important urban centers in Salah al-Din Governorate, serving as its administrative center since 1976. Since 1947, it has been a city with high and accelerating population and household growth rates. As a result, its area has expanded and its population has multiplied many times due to its high population growth rate, which has reached more than 8% annually in some periods. In 2023, its population reached 123,828, making it the second most populous city after Samarra. Previous population policies, especially after 1976, led to increased population fertility and population movement toward the city, whether from within the governorate, its countryside, or from outside. Therefore, this topic was chosen to demonstrate this rate by residential neighborhoods and then address the problems resulting from growth, whether in housing, services, or slums. This research, also, provides decision-makers with an opportunity to plan for the future by estimating the future population size until 2033 to overcome these problems.
