Inclusion of Wisdom of the Most Prominent poets of the First Abbasid Era
Main Article Content
Abstract
Wisdom was known in the poetry of pre-Islamic poets, but it expanded greatly in the Abbasid era. Among the wisdom poets of this era are: Abu Tammam, Bashar bin Burd, and others. The wide translation movement influenced wisdom poetry. It is noted that the Abbasid poets were influenced by the Greeks and Persians’ wisdom. Also, wisdom taken from the Indian work Kalila and Dimna which was translated into Persian, then Ibn al-Muqaffa translated it into Arabic. Therefore, they represented it in poetry, and included some of it in their prose. They hardly stumbled upon the two books of Great Literature and Little Literature, in which Ibn al-Muqaffa conveyed the experiences of the Persians, their wisdom, and their commandments regarding friendship, advice, and etiquette, until they began to single out the passages in their poetic form. Poets unleashed their energy in writing wisdom poetry. They also wrote prose and excelled in it. There are many poets whose names spread and became famous for their wisdom poetry, and they have many amazing models such as Abu Tammam, Al-Buhturi, and Bashar Ibn Burd. Abbasid wisdom poetry was distinguished by singling out poems or entire pieces of wisdom. In this type of poetry, the poet moves from the throne of the spontaneous poet to the seat of the master orchestrator, collecting everything that matches its weight and the value of its meaning.
