Cognitive Agility and Its Relationship to Academic Performance among University Students
Main Article Content
Abstract
The problem of this study lies in identifying the correlation among cognitive agility and academic performance among university students. Its importance is derived from the importance of its variables and the targeted sample. Accordingly, this study aims at identifying:
- The level of cognitive agility among university students.
- The differences in the level of cognitive agility among university students according to the variables of gender (males- females) and major (scientific- humanitarian).
- The level of academic performance among university students.
- The differences in the level of academic performance among university students according to the variables of gender (males- females) and major (scientific- humanitarian).
- The correlation among cognitive agility,
- Academic performance.
The sample of this study is represented by (400) students from Tikrit university of both genders (males- females) and major (scientific- humanitarian) for the academic year (2021-2022). The research sample is selected randomly in order to achieve the research objectives. The researcher designed a scale of cognitive agility, consisting of (38) items. The face validity of the scale is verified by presenting its items to a group of specialists, as well as extracting the discrimination power and correlation coefficient for the scale items. Thus, the scale in its final form consists of (38) items. The reliability of the scale is calculated by retest method, reaching (84%), and by using Cronbach alpha method, reaching (80%). While the second variable (academic performance), it consists of (42) items. Its face validity is verified by presenting its items to a group of specialists, as well as extracting the discrimination power and the correlation coefficient for its items. Thus, the scale in its final form consists of (42) items. Its reliability is calculated by the retest method, reaching (0.88), and by using Cronbach alpha method, reaching (0.85). After extracting the validity and reliability of the variables (cognitive agility, and academic performance), the researcher applies the scales to the research sample, which consists of (400) male and female students. After collecting the information, the data is treated statistically by using the T-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Then,
