Abstract

Analytical thinking can be defined as a kind of thinking which increases the learner’s ability to face the problems by dismantling their parts carefully and methodologically, paying attention to the details and planning carefully before taking decisions. Also, it collects the maximum amount of data to have the ability to participate in clarifying things to reach rational conclusions through facts. That’s why this kind of thinking has great importance to determine the level of the learners and has great effect on their performance. One of the faults of learners is their ignorance of thinking in general and analytical thinking in specific in spite of its role in analyzing the problem and dismantling it to reach the prefect solution.  The current research aims to identify: analytical thinking among university students, and differences in analytical thinking according to gender (males, females).  The differences are according to specialization (scientific, humanities).  To achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher adopted the (Analytical Thinking) test, prepared by (Hamza, 2019), consisting of (30) situations. The researcher applied the tool to the research sample that was chosen randomly and consisted of (300) male and female students from Tikrit University. It showed  The results of the research are that university students have an average level of analytical thinking, and there is a difference according to gender and in favor of females, and there is no difference according to specialization.
