Abstract

Since its inception in 1946, Spanish-Iraqi relations have witnessed complete stability and friendly relations whose primary motivation was the interests of major countries, especially the United States of America. Relations did not witness significant progress until Spain emerged from its isolation and integrated with the policies of European countries in the 1980s, and entered into the policy of the European Union. And NATO. Therefore, a slight improvement and support was observed for Iraq, especially its participation in many development, health and food programmes, and Spain was part of the “Oil for Food” program established by the United Nations. When the United States of America launched a war on Iraq in 2003, Spain was an active member and a key partner in that war. Therefore, relations witnessed a noticeable improvement, represented by the provision of aid to its allies from the major countries. After that, relations cooled and then became active according to the interests of the two countries.
