Geographical Analysis of the Poor Population in Sharqat District for the Year 2020

Abstract
The study of the phenomenon of poverty in Iraq, Salah al-Din Governorate and Al- Sharqat district, according to the geographical dimension in general and the population dimension in particular, is of great importance, being a phenomenon that began to grow in recent years, especially after 2014, and this study is one of the endeavours to analyse the phenomenon by following the descriptive and analytical approach, as well as determining the provinces with very high poverty rates. One of the most important results is that poverty rates are high, and amounted to more than 39,000 poor people in the district, representing 14.1% of the total population. The study also found that the most important variables affecting the levels of poverty are the high level of unemployment, the residential location and the large family size in addition to the low economic return of farmers. Therefore, policies and plans should be set to promote development, especially in the countryside.
