الملخص
بعد ان أصبحت الولايات المتحدة الامريكية تسير على وفق نظام الحزبين بناء على وجود حزبين رئيسيين يتنافسان في الانتخابات ابتداء من انتخابات عام 1796م وان الولايات المتحدة تعتمد في طريقه حكمها على الديمقراطية الدستورية وجوهر الدمقراطية في هذا البلد هو السياسة وان جوهر السياسة في هذا البلد واسع كالولايات المتحدة هو الأحزاب وان الحزب الديمقراطي هو احد اقدم الأحزاب التي ظهرت على الساحة السياسية الامريكية منذ السنوات الأولى لتشكيل الجمهورية وكان لهذا الحزب اهداف يسعى لتحقيقها آنذاك متمما سعي الحزب الديمقراطي وضعها في سلم أولوية ومتمما السعي لاستيعاب المبادئ الديمقراطية الأساسية في الدستور
ومن الجدير بالذكر ان ظهور الحزب الجمهوري يعد ضرورة حتمية نتيجة الانقسام الذي شهدته الأحزاب المعارضة له فضلا عن الانقسامات السياسية التي شهدها الكونغرس ابان تلك الحقبة في مسألة تسوية ميسوري عام 1850م
