Unpublished Pottery Plates in the Iraqi Museum from the Ancient Babylonian Period
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research studies unpublished pottery tablets from the Iraqi Museum dating back to the ancient Babylonian era. They are four tablets, dealt with purely religious scenes with different content. The first tablet represents a devotee naked woman, the second tablet is a female deity (the preacher), and the third tablet indicates a devotee man, as for the fourth tablet, the scene indicates a man making offerings.
These panels are considered a kind of art, which includes within it concepts and beliefs that the inhabitants of Mesopotamia possessed, especially since the purpose of their manufacture was not an aesthetic purpose as we have at the present time of owning pieces of art, but rather the main motive in their acquisition is more like an amulet or a watch that gives the individual a kind of reassurance and psychological comfort from the point of view of its owner.
