Geographical Disparities in the Happiness Index in the GCC Countries and Iraq

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the geographical disparities in happiness levels among the GCC countries and Iraq, based on data from the World Happiness Report 2025, which relies on the Gallup World Poll survey. The index is measured using the Cantril Ladder, where individuals evaluate their current and future lives on a scale ranging from 0 (worst) to 10 (best). The results reveal a clear disparity among the countries under study, with the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait recording the highest levels of happiness, while Iraq ranks the lowest. This variation is primarily attributed to economic, social, and health differences, in addition to individuals’ perceptions of corruption and personal freedom.
