Abstract

The aim of the current research is to determine the effect of the six hats strategy on the achievement of second-year intermediate students in Islamic education and the Holy Qur’an and to develop their reflective thinking. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher prepared an achievement test consisting of (40) items. The validity of the test was verified by presenting it to the experts. And the arbitrators in the field of education and teaching methods, according to its difficulty factor, the strength of discrimination of its items, and its stability. The researcher prepared a scale for reflective thinking for middle school students, where the scale consisted of (30) items, and it was presented to a group of expert arbitrators in the field of educational psychology, education, and teaching methods, and the results were obtained. All items of the scale were (80%). Thus, the scale was considered valid in its paragraphs, and its stability was confirmed. The experiment was applied in the second semester of the academic year (2023-2024).

The results of these studies revealed the importance of developing reflective thinking skills and the necessity of developing them among teachers and learners alike. They also concluded that these skills are not sufficiently available in Islamic studies curricular activities in all grades, and that students’ familiarity with them is insufficient. They recommended the need to reformulate these studies. The curricula include reflective thinking skills, and she also stressed that Islamic studies teachers at various educational levels must train their students in reflective thinking skills. Hence, it has become necessary for those concerned with education in general and teaching specialists in particular to pay attention to the necessity of developing reflective thinking skills among learners, and to make mastering these skills a fundamental goal at the forefront of educational goals. It is clear from the above how important it is to develop the learner’s reflective thinking skills as a basic goal that modern education in general and Islamic studies in particular seek to achieve.

The research problem is no longer developing reflective thinking skills among learners as an educational option, but has become an urgent educational necessity and a national demand for national and social reasons.

In light of the results, the researcher presented a set of recommendations and proposals:

1- Making education meaningful to the learner, taking into account his needs and interests, by applying the Six Hats methodology in teaching, as it develops students’ mental abilities.

2- Adopting educational plans designed according to the “Six Hats” methodology to teach second-year intermediate students because of its impact on developing their contemplative thinking.

3- Integrating the Six Hats strategy into the school curricula: It is recommended to include the Six Hats strategy within the educational curricula, because of its positive impact on developing creative thinking and critical thinking among students.
