Main Article Content
Abstract
This study focuses on investigating the relationship between climate and urban planning of buildings in the city of Haditha. Geographically, Haditha is located between latitudes (34.05.18 - 34.10.44) North and longitudes (42.21.12 - 42.23.15) East, with an estimated area of about 113.5 km². This location represents the administrative center of Haditha district, one of the districts in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq. It is situated 145 km from the city of Haditha and about 240 km from Baghdad. It is one of the Upper Euphrates cities in Anbar Governorate. Due to its fertile soil and proximity to the Euphrates River, it represents an area of attraction for residents. The establishment of the K3 oil station in the city has increased its economic importance, creating more job opportunities. As a result, the city has moved towards construction, development, and growth more than the surrounding cities, due to the improved living standards of the population. This development has extended to include all urban aspects of the city, as well as economic and social aspects.Haditha consists of 14 residential neighborhoods, varying in size from one to another according to historical age and geographical location. A study was conducted on the climatic elements affecting thermal comfort in Haditha, namely temperature, humidity, and wind, to determine their impact on the planning and design of residential neighborhoods and to find a miniature local climate that achieves more comfort than others, and vice versa. An analysis was carried out on four residential units in Haditha, two within the modern open pattern and two within the old compact pattern within the study area.
