Abstract

The current research aims to identify the effect of the Bertram Bruce model on the development of emotional empathy among fifth grade literary students in the subject of philosophy and psychology.

The researchers adopted the experimental design with partial control with two equal groups, the experimental and the control group, as the researchers intentionally chose the students of the fifth literary grade from Al-Mustafa Preparatory School in Hawija Education Department because it contains two divisions for the fifth literary students, and in the random way that the researchers followed, the choice fell on division (A) to be a group An experimental study whose students study using the Bertram Bruce model, while division (B) became a control group whose students study in the usual way. The research sample reached (60) students after excluding the students who failed by (30) students in each division. The students of the two groups searched statistically in a number of variables, and the two researchers determined the educational material to be taught, which included the first and second chapters of the book of philosophy and psychology for the fifth literary grade. The researchers prepared a measure of emotional empathy, and it was in its final form, consisting of (32) items with three alternatives, and its validity, stability and discrimination were verified. The researchers taught both groups by themselves, at the rate of two lessons per week for each group, and after completing the application of the experiment, the researchers applied the research tool (the Dimensional Affective Empathy Scale) to the two research groups, and after collecting the results, the data were processed using appropriate statistical methods, and the following results appeared:

There is a statistically significant difference at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group students and the mean scores of the control group in the emotional empathy scale, in favor of the experimental group. There is a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (0.05) in the average of the differences between the scores of the experimental group students in the pretest and posttest on the emotional empathy scale, in favor of the post measurement.
