Abstract

Mental skills are a group of performances that are highly related, whether in the field of study or work, in achieving his future goals in light of his previous experiences and reference frame. The current research aims to identify the level of mental skills of middle school students. It answers the following questions: Are there statistically significant differences in the level of mental skills of middle school students according to the variables of sex and specialization?The research was limited to students of the scientific and literary preparatory stage in the schools of Soliman- Bek district for the academic year (2020-2021). The research sample included (65) students divided into two schools, a girls ’school and a boys’ school. To achieve the research goal, the researcher prepared the following test:• Preparing mental skills testsThe validity of the test was verified by relying on (apparent validity), as for consistency, it was calculated by re-testing for each test, and the data were statistically treated using the statistical bag (Spss) and the results showed the following:


1- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of mental skills of the sample members according to the gender variable.


2- There are statistically significant differences in the level of mental skills among the sample members according to the variable of specialization in favor of the scientific specialization.


In light of the results, the researcher reached a set of recommendations, including: 1- Directing middle school teachers to pay attention to the mental and thinking skills of their students and encouraging them to practice them. 2-The need for the Directorate of Preparation and Training in the education directorates to establish training courses for primary and secondary school teachers on strategies for teaching thinking and training students in thinking skills.
