Abstract

The current research aims to reveal the level of independence and its relationship to some gender variables (male/female) and specialization (scientific/literary) among a sample of preparatory stage students. The research sample reached (300) male and female students from Dujail district schools. The researchers built the measure of independence and efficiency of confrontation, which is part of the basic requirements for the current research, which consists of five areas (self-efficacy, decision-making, responsibility, freedom of opinion, self-confidence). The scale is in its primary form which consists of (50) paragraphs, where it was conducted verification of the apparent honesty of the scale by presenting it to a group of experts and arbitrators, as well as extracting the discrimination factor and correlation coefficient of the paragraphs of the scale. All paragraphs were retained without deletion, and the stability of the scale was calculated using a re-test method amounted to (0.82). It is considered a good stability coefficient because the value of reliable stability in scales of psychological preferences are to be more than (0.70)
The researchers reached the following results :-
1 - The preparatory stage students enjoy a good level of independence.
2 - There are no statistically significant differences in the level of independence according to the gender variable (male / female), and the absence of statistically significant differences in the specialty (scientific / literary) .
