The Connotations of the Morphological Structures in Al –Sayyab’s Poetry: The Abandoned Nest as a Model
Main Article Content
Abstract
Scholars of language have long recognized the significance of morphological structures in the diversification of meaning. The alteration of a word from one morphological pattern to another can result in a multiplicity of meanings, thereby rendering morphology an independent discipline that rivals or even surpasses the importance of syntax. This is because morphology examines the intrinsic properties of the word itself.
Given the importance of morphological structures in the diversification and ramification of meaning, the present study aimed to investigate the semantic implications of morphological structures in the poetry of Al-Sayyab. To this end, the researcher employed a descriptive-analytical approach to analyze the morphological structures in the poem "Al-'Ush al-Mahjur" (The Abandoned Nest), which serves as a paradigmatic example of Al-Sayyab's poetry, and to identify the semantic implications of these structures and their role in conveying meaning to the reader or listener.
The study concluded that Al-Sayyab employed various morphological structures in the poem "Al-'Ush al-Mahjur" to convey meaning, with the most prominent structures being syntactic parallelism, phonetic proximity, the use of the present tense verb form, the use of the past tense verb form, and the frequent occurrence of nouns throughout the poem.
