Abstract
The Umayyad prince Abd al-Rahman ibn Muawiyah ibn Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik (Saqr Quraish) was the founder of the Umayyad state in Andalusia. He became the first to establish and lay the roots of the Islamic Levantine civilization in Andalusia, the East and the Islamic Maghreb.
As the religious life in Andalusia in the first period became affected by the Levant, the people of Andalusia embraced the doctrine of Imam Al-Awza’i, due to the strong Levantine presence in Andalusia, as modern science played an important role in the development of religious sciences and Islamic thought in general.
Abdul Rahman built the city of Rusafa in imitation of Rusafa al-Sham built by Hisham bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan. Among the urban buildings, we notice the Syrian character in all of his facilities that he built in Cordoba, such as the mosque, the influence of the Andalusians with the Levantine architectural art adorning it for the ceilings, vaults, corners and round pillars. The leather industry was active in Cordoba and other cities of Andalusia. The Cordoba leather gained high fame.
