Abstract

The basin of Wadi Qala Golan is located in the northeastern part of Iraq within the administrative borders of the district of Sharbazir in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Sea level, and the total rainfall in the study area exceeds (650) mm, in addition to that, the slope is more than (35) degrees, and the aim of the basin study is to quantitatively estimate water erosion and measure the volume of soil washed away by water erosion. The use of geographic information systems and remote sensing in order to apply the Gavrilovic model (EPM) equations, as it is considered one of the most appropriate models in diagnosing erosion levels in mountainous areas, through the interaction between the various environmental factors of the region (such as slope, soil type, vegetation density, as well as precipitation and degrees of temperature), and the study relied on a satellite image (Landsat-8) for the year 2023 for the purpose of analyzing land use and vegetation density. The lost soil ranges between (5205 - 21022) m3 / km2 / year within two types of erosion severity (strong and catastrophic erosion).
