The European Union as the Engine of Economic Power in the years (1991-2001 AD)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The European Union garnered significant attention in the field of international affairs due to its efforts in expanding and integrating its economy. This was seen as a collective approach to stimulate and rejuvenate economic and commercial activity, while also ensuring a smooth integration into the global economy. Given its proximity to other major economic blocs, the European Union is well-positioned to align with and benefit from current global economic trends. In the future of the twenty-first century, we will see the monitoring of European integration and its historical and current progress. In 1992, the countries of the European Community reached an agreement to establish the European single market. This agreement went beyond the elimination of physical barriers and also included the removal of unexpected restrictions. Additionally, there was an agreement on monetary coordination among the currencies of the European Community countries, which took place in several stages and was referred to as the economic union. Furthermore, in response to the growing demand for unrestricted movement of capital and financial services, the Maastricht Treaty was enacted, resulting in the transformation of the European Community into the European Union. When discussing the European Union's role in the global economy, it is widely recognized as an economic powerhouse that significantly contributes to driving economic progress.
