Abstract

The study of riverine island geomorphology is an important study, as it represents one of the most significant features found in river courses, compelling them to widen their channels. In the study area, numerous natural and human factors are present that have led to the formation of these features. This includes the widespread valleys, which receive substantial sediment deposits contributing to the expansion and growth of the islands. Additionally, river meanders create a suitable environment for the formation of riverine islands. Regarding human factors, the construction of dams and reservoirs plays a role in increasing the opportunities for the development of these geomorphic features. This is achieved through the control of water quantities released from the dams and reservoirs. It has been observed that the number of such islands significantly increases after the construction of such structures. The presence of these factors within the study area has made it a favorable environment for the study of this phenomenon. Researchers aim to monitor its growth, expansion, and address the reasons behind its development. They also aim to understand the extent to which humans exploit these features. Therefore, studying any phenomenon resulting from natural and human variables on the Earth's surface has a clear impact on changing the Earth's surface characteristics.

Riverine islands are considered a relatively recent phenomenon resulting from changes in natural and human factors. Geographers have shown interest in studying these variables and assessing their impact on the Earth's surface by utilizing remote sensing systems (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS).
