Evaluation of the Efficiency of Drinking Water Production System and Consumption in Shirqat District and its Future Planning
Main Article Content
Abstract
The topic of water production and consumption has become a significant focus in contemporary geographical studies. This is primarily due to the escalating demand for drinking water to fulfill diverse needs. Consequently, the importance of water extends beyond being a fundamental necessity for sustaining life, and is now considered a crucial indicator for measuring a country's level of development. Despite the significance of this subject, studies pertaining to water in Iraq are currently lacking in terms of their quality, quantity, and accessibility for the entire population across the country. Hence, the objective of this study is to assess the quantitative and distributional efficiency of the drinking water system. The findings reveal a shortfall of 300 liters per person per day, as compared to the approved ministerial standard of 360 liters per person per day. Additionally, the study aims to project the future state of the drinking water production system in response to urban expansion and population growth in the study area until 2030.
