Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the “Circle–Pairing–Sharing” strategy on the development of deep understanding among fifth-grade humanities students in geography. The researcher employed a partially controlled experimental design with two groups (an experimental group and a control group). The research sample consisted of 64 students, with the experimental group comprising 32 students, while the control group consisted of 32 students. The research instrument, a deep understanding test, was developed, and its validity and reliability were verified. After conducting the experiment at the scheduled time, the results showed the following:

  1. There is a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the experimental group and the mean scores of the control group on the post-test of deep comprehension skills.

  2. There was a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the experimental group on the pre- and post-tests of deep understanding.

The researcher recommended the need to organize workshops and training courses for geography teachers to familiarize them with the importance of active learning strategies, including the “Circle-Pair-Share” strategy, in teaching geography at all grade levels.
