Abstract

This research aims to model the morphotectonic processes in the Warti area, northeast of Erbil Governorate, through analyzing geomorphometric indices extracted from the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The study area lies within the mountainous belt of the Zagros Range, known for its tectonic activity and influence on landforms and drainage networks. The research analyzed the Asymmetry Factor (AF), Transverse Topographic Symmetry Index (T-index), Basin Shape Index (Bs), and other indicators used in building the morphotectonic hazard model. Results revealed clear spatial variation in index values, with high structural response in the southern and southeastern parts, where drainage deviations and basin asymmetry indicate differential uplift and structural control. Four spatial factors were integrated using the Weighted Overlay method: tectonic activity, lineament intersection density, lineament length density, and relief. Moderate hazard occupied the largest area, confirming the structurally active nature of the region.
