Abstract

This study aimed to measure the readability level of the reading and texts book for the first middle grade in Iraq, and determining the effect of the student’s gender and the type of the text on the readability level.
To achieve the study goals, the close test has been built for the two texts from the textbook, and applied to a sample consisted of (87) male and female students who were randomly selected, (45) male students at Al – Wathba middle school for boys, and (42)female students from Al – Jana’en middle school for girls, from the first middle grade in Iraq.
The study results showed the raise in the readability level of the reading textbook and the texts for the first middle grade, the readability percentage of the students reading the book reached in the total levels and the educational level (%57.5), while the study results revealed the readability level of the book attribute to the student variable the gender and the type of reading text.
