The Irregularities in the Conjugation of Verbs and Nouns in the Sharh al-Shafiya by al-Radi al-Asterbadi (d. 686 AH)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research explores the phenomenon of irregularities (al-shawadh) in the book Sharh al-Shafiya by the renowned scholar al-Radi al-Asterbadi, who passed away in 686 AH. In this context, "irregularities" refers to morphological or grammatical issues that deviate from the prevailing rule or linguistic norm, which may appear to contradict linguistic principles or conventional usage.
The research highlights how al-Radi al-Asterbadi sometimes employed irregularities as an interpretive tool or means to clarify certain grammatical and morphological exceptions that contribute to conveying meaning, thereby enriching the linguistic lesson and deepening understanding of Arabic grammar.
This research also analyzes the sources underlying these irregularities in the morphological structure and compares them to what is found in other books on morphology, demonstrating whether these irregularities reflect al-Radi's personal opinion or are based on the views of earlier scholars.
The research concludes that the irregularities in Sharh al-Shafiya are not random deviations from the rules, but rather deliberate and well-considered, reflecting the diversity of the grammatical school in the Abbasid era and the scholars' efforts to reconcile linguistic rules with rhetoric
