Abstract

The study of the environmental and qualitative distribution of the population of Shirqat shows the presence of variation in the distribution of the population at the environmental and qualitative levels, and the social factors represented by customs and traditions had a prominent role in the distribution of the population in addition to the natural factors represented by the Tigris River, which divides the district into two halves, where the shoulders of rivers and fresh water are raised which encouraged agriculture and animal husbandry. The study shows that the Ashur district accounted for the number of females in the countryside of Shirqat district, equivalent to (45%) of the total females, as the study indicated through the use of the population concentration index that the population is moving towards concentration, while the indicator of redistribution.  There are approximately 77 thousand people out of the total population whose redistribution is required, and by calculating the general (arithmetic) density of the population, it was found that there is inconsistency between the administrative units in the population density due to the discrepancy in the area of those units.
