Abstract

The present research aims to identify psychological withdrawal and its relationship to decision-making among intermediate school students, in light of some variables (gender - specialization). The research sample consists of 800 male and female students from the fifth literary branch. The researcher prepared a scale to measure psychological withdrawal, which consisted of two areas. The scale in its initial form consisted of 34 paragraphs. The apparent validity of the scale was verified by presenting its paragraphs to jury members. Four paragraphs were deleted, as well as extracting the discrimination coefficient and the correlation coefficient of the paragraphs with the scale. All paragraphs were completed. Thus, the scale in its final form consisted of 30 paragraphs. The stability of the scale was calculated by retesting, and it reached 0.88, which is a good indicator.

The researcher applied the scales to the basic research sample consisting of 300 male and female students from the fifth literary branch. After collecting the information forms, the data were statistically processed using the t-test for one sample and two samples and the Pearson correlation coefficient. The researcher reached the following results:

  • The students of the research sample are characterized by a high level of psychological withdrawal.

  • There is a significant difference between males and females in the psychological withdrawal scale in favor of males.

  • There is no significant difference in the psychological withdrawal variable between students of scientific specialization and students of literary specialization.

The researcher presented a set of recommendations and suggestions.
