The Geographical Extensions of the Railway Link between Iraq and Syria and Its Impact on Sustainable Urban Development

Abstract
The railway network is one of the main and vital arteries for linking the country with its external neighborhood, providing the elements of communication and achieving cooperation and integration, and given the strategic and geostrategic location of Iraq and Syria between the East and the West, which enables them to use it as a transportation and trade node and a primary source of national income.
This research aims to clarified of the importance of the two countries location, reality of the proposed railway link between Iraq and Syria by taking advantage of the geographical capabilities of both countries and setting the best route for this line, while clarifying the impact of this railway link between Iraq and Syria in achieving sustainable development for both.
The railway link between Iraq and Syria will have a pivotal role in shaping urban areas and regional cohesion, and will contribute to activating existing urban centers because they are in the poorly populated deserts of the two countries, and until in creating new urban centers in a way that takes into account achieving sustainable development, contributing to a sustainable urban future, in addition to its political benefits in achieving benefit for Asian countries with Europe.
