Abstract

The goal of the current research is to identify curiosity and its relationship to academic achievement among intermediate school students according to the variable of gender (males - females) and specialization (scientific - literary). A sample of (300) male and female students from Salah al-Din Educational Schools in Baiji District was selected for the academic year 2022/ 2023. The researcher prepared a curiosity scale consisting of (57) items, as well as extracting the discrimination coefficient and the correlation coefficient. Thus, the scale became composed of (50) items. The reliability of the scale was calculated using a retest method, and it reached (0.82). The research showed a level of curiosity among intermediate school students. There are no statistically significant differences according to the variable of gender (males - females) and specialization (scientific - literary). There is a level of academic achievement. There are no significant differences in the variables of gender (males - females) and specialization (scientific - literary). There is a correlation between curiosity and achievement. The researcher reached a number of recommendations, including paying attention to the development of curricula and educational methods, and investing in technologies to keep pace with changes. Directing socialization institutions to develop cognitive curiosity through interaction. Holding courses to introduce and educate teachers about the importance of curiosity and its role in achieving success. It is necessary to pay attention to enhancing achievement motivation among school students by providing an educational environment that enhances the choice of academic specialization. The researcher came up with proposals to conduct studies on curiosity among students in other academic levels.
