Abstract

The present research adopted a partial controlled experimental design with two equal experimental and control groups. The researcher intentionally selected fifth grade literary students from Dhuluiya intermediate school and high school. Students from Al-Aws Secondary School in the Dhuluiya Education Department become the control group, and in the random manner followed by the researcher, Dhuluiya Preparatory School was chosen to be an experimental group whose students are taught using the S.N.I.P.S strategy. Meanwhile, Al-Aws Secondary School became a control group whose students studied in the usual way. The research sample amounted to (62) students after excluding the students who failed. It included two sections. One section affiliated with Al-Dhuluiya Preparatory School represented (30) students in the experimental group that studied with the S.N.I.P.S strategy. The other section affiliated with Al-Aws High School (32) students represented the control group, who were taught in the usual way. Before starting the experiment, the researcher was keen to make the students of the two research groups statistically equal in a number of variables: (the chronological age of the students calculated in months, the “Raven” intelligence test, and the scores of the a priori convergent thinking scale). The researcher determined the educational material to be taught, and the researcher prepared behavioral objectives within four levels. He also prepared (16) model teaching plans for both groups.  A test was prepared for convergent thinking, and the test in its final form consisted of (30) items distributed over six areas, and verified its validity, reliability, and discrimination and taught both groups himself, with two lessons per week for each group. After completing the experiment, the researcher applied the research tool (the dimensional convergent thinking test) to the two research groups. After collecting the results, the data was processed using appropriate statistical methods and the following results appeared: -

  1. There is a statistically significant difference at the level (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group students and the average scores of the control group in the post-convergent thinking test, in favor of the experimental group.

  2. There is a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (0.05) in the average differences between the scores of the students of the experimental group in the pre- and post-test on the convergent thinking test and in favor of the post-test. This means that there has been development in convergent thinking among the students of the experimental group.

In light of the results, the researcher reached a number of conclusions, recommendations and proposals.
