Abstract

Crime in general, and drug crime in particular, is a source of constant threat and anxiety due to their multiple effects on the individual himself and the society in which he lives. Consequently, drug abuse crimes result in loss of life. Moreover, they result in various harms that may sometimes lead to anxiety, depression, which often lead to committing suicide, is what prompted us to study this phenomenon. This study addresses the concept of drugs, their types, their spatial and temporal distribution, study the demographic characteristics of perpetrators of drug abuse crimes, the ways of obtaining drugs and the reasons driving their abuse, and to explain the size of crimes in the governorate, where it reached (1010) crime between a drug user and a dealer during the study period between the years (2015-2023), where the highest crimes for drug abuse were in the year (2022), reaching (218) crimes, and the lowest in the year (2015) was about (10) crimes for drug use, and the highest drug abuse cases can be found in Al-Tuz district in Salah al-Din Governorate.
