The ability of problem solving among high school students (A comparative study between the gifted and the ordinary)

Abstract
The research aimed to identify:
1- The level of middle school students in their ability to solve problems.
2- The significant differences between gifted and ordinary students in their ability to solve problems.
3- The significant differences between gifted and ordinary students in their ability to solve problems according to the variables of gender and school stage.
The research is limited to middle school students (gifted and ordinary students - girls and boys) for the academic year (2017-2018).
The research tool had built for problem solving consisting of (38) items after completing the psychometric procedures on them. Face validity was used to ensure the validity of items, and the half-separate has been used to ensure the reliability of the search tool.
The research was based on the descriptive and comparative approach, and the tool was applied on a sample of (136) gifted and ordinary students. (SPSS) was used to analyze the research data.
The most important research results:
1- The students' level - in general - for problem solving is below average.
2- There are statistical significant differences in the total for the research sample (gifted and ordinary) in their ability to solve problems according to a variable.
3- There are no statistical significant differences in the scores of both groups of the research sample (gifted and ordinary) in their ability to solve problems according to the gender variable.
4- There are no statistical significant differences in the scores of both groups of the research sample (gifted and ordinary) in their ability to solve problems according to the variable of the educational stage.
