Main Article Content
Abstract
The study aimed to identify the level of tolerance among students of the Department of Psychology at the University of Salah al-Din, and the significance of the differences in that according to the class and gender variables, as well as to identify their personal traits, and the nature of the relationship between tolerance and personality traits. The sample of the study included (144) male and female students who were randomly selected from the second, third and fourth grades in the Psychology Department at the College of Arts / University of Salah al-Din. The study relied on two tools: the Tolerance Questionnaire prepared by Latifa Othman Al-Shaalan and Munira Abdul Rahman Al-Muqrin (2014), and the Freiburg Inventory of personality which translated to Arab by (Allawi, 1987). After treating the data statistically, it was found that the level of tolerance among the sample individuals is low, and there are no differences in tolerance attributable to class or gender. The results showed that the students are characterized by a trait (nervousness, aggressiveness, palmistry) with a moderate degree, while the level of the remaining five traits (excitability, social, control, depression, and calm) among the sample subjects was low and statistically significant. The results also indicated the existence of a statistically significant positive relationship between tolerance and the two traits of social and calm, and it was found that there is a negative statistically significant relationship between tolerance and the traits of aggression, nervousness, and control, while there was no significant relationship between tolerance and the rest of the traits. In light of the results, a set of recommendations and proposals were presented.
