Abstract

The problem of acid rain is considered as one of most important environmental problem that appeared nowadays because human activities such as industrial and transportation. The study is conducted in the city of Erbil, which is one of the cities that attracts residents to live in it, due to the ease of movement between its regions and also the presence of the necessary activities for the residents to live in. On the other hand, the presence and concentration of these activities in it has contributed to raising pollution rates there, especially in crowded areas such as public markets or in the area known as the Industrial Area in Erbil. It contributes to raising the rate of harmful gases in it, which causes what is known as acid rain. It needs to be handled properly. In order to measure the degree of acidity in it, four rainwater samples were taken for the period from November to the end of January \ 2022 for four different regions and tested in the laboratory for the purpose of identifying its components and the degree of acidity. The first represents the southern industries area in the city of Erbil, and the second represents the Erbil Citadel area or the center of the city’s markets, an area crowded with transportation, various services and population movement. The third sample is represented in a green area due to the abundance of plants in it, which is near Sami Abdel Rahman Park, while the fourth is represented in the Karizan area, an area far from the city center to some extent and residential to a large extent, and the acidity test was added to examine the concentrations of other ions as indirect indicators on the acidity of rain
