Abstract

The research seeks to elucidate the perspectives of Arabs and Muslims regarding the concept of geography during that time period. These perspectives are regarded as significant in the realm of contemporary geographical concepts and viewpoints. This includes the viewpoints of Abu Zaid Ahmad Ibn Sahl al-Balkhi, who played a crucial role in shaping geographical ideas, particularly in the context of regional geography in its modern form. The research aims to provide insights into the study of surface geography, including its appearance, landforms, particularly mountains, and their proximity to urban areas, and to compare them with one another. Al-Balkhi predominantly employed the scientific method in his writings, adhering to the scientific methodology for text interpretation rather than the positivist approach that seeks to undermine scientific concepts. Al-Balkhi emphasized the significance of surface structure as a key observation, highlighting its clear contrast with the ideas and opinions of geographers, particularly those of natural origin.
