Abstract

The ancient Egyptians law considered many actions as crimes that violate the social system and allocated a certain penalty to each of them in accordance with the seriousness of the damage. Therefore, penalties varied from the penalty of death (in the cases of conspiracy) and the penalty of amputation of organs, especially the organ by which the crime was committed, the penalty of cauterizing, whipping and flogging as a disciplinary punishment for the farmers who delay in paying the taxes. Also, the penalty of imprisonment was as a detainment penalty either by the court or during the trial. So, it can be known that the imprisonment was a penalty, which was known as through some documents and evidences and that is noticed in the holy Quran when the prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) was sentenced to prison, when he passed through the temptation and was prisoned. Also, the Egyptian law involved the financial, managerial and the psychological penalties.
