The effectiveness of cultural activities in stimulating academic achievement. Model of our research: The Rouhiya’s Secondary School students
Main Article Content
Abstract
As we know, educational institutions suffer from a number of problems. Over the last few years, the main problems have been academic failure and school dropouts. Both phenomena appear to be frequent and similar in their manifestations. In addition, both are a research path for seeking ways and means to combat them, since there is an urgent need for solutions. Given the importance of the educational process for society, which Margate Meade considered "the cultural process and the way in which the new human newborn becomes a full member of the human community", it is therefore a process of interaction between the human being and the environment in which he lives. However, inwardly, it needs to be understood and diagnosed as social contexts vary. Today, we are witnessing high rates of school dropouts and school failures, estimated in recent periods at about 100.000 student during a school year. This calls upon educational institutions to make further efforts to understand and diagnose the phenomenon of school failure and school dropouts, and to reduce their high rates. Cultural activities may enable us to reach these goals, as it is a mechanism of pedagogical intervention through which communication between individuals is managed, directed and controlled. They are diverse. They cover all areas that satisfy the physical, psychological and social needs of the individual. They work to develop the skills and abilities of the student, to combat problems and to break down barriers between him and the teacher. At this level, our research paper seeks to find out the extent to which student activities are effective in stimulating the student's desire for academic achievement through two points related to reconsidering the reality of cultural activities in institutes, and the extent to which the administration (Ministry of Education) and the student pay attention to the latter from the point of view of humanities, and specifically, sociology. The first point is to focus on the features of cultural activities within educational institutions and the extent to which they respond to student requirements. The second point is the interest and application of cultural stimulation techniques in schools as a means of trying to eliminate barriers between teacher and student and to reduce school failure and dropout rates, as they have an impact on the value and symbolic system for the student and the educational system as a whole
