Abstract

Smoking has negative effects on the health and achievement of students and on their intellectual abilities. Since tobacco causes an anesthesia of the nerves and cerebrum besides confusion of thinking, the smoker not only harms himself, but harms all of the surround students. This is what is called upon to identify the nature and forms of this phenomenon and its causes and the factors that affect them. Because it focuses on the target group as a cornerstone in the community, where it has a lot of responsibilities and tasks that concern the future of the country, The study aimed to identify the level of addiction among students of the residential as well as to identify the level of differences between the scientific and humanitarian disciplines. The sample of the study consisted of (260) students. The smoking addiction measure was applied by the researcher. The results of the study showed that the students of the residential showed an average level of smoking phenomenon, as well as differences between the students in the level of smoking and according to the variable specialization (scientific - human) for the benefit of humanities colleges. In the light of the results, the study recommended some recommendations and proposals
