Abstract

The current research aims to identify the level of cognitive speed among gifted intermediate school students and to examine the statistically significant differences in cognitive speed according to the gender variable (males – females).

The research sample consisted of 300 male and female gifted intermediate school students.

In order to achieve the objective of the research, the researcher adopted the Cognitive Speed Test originally constructed by Al-Kahil (2015) after adapting it to the Iraqi environment. The test comprised three main subtests: Word Cancellation – Number Comparison – Identical Pictures. The validity and reliability of the test were duly verified.

After processing the data statistically using appropriate statistical tools (One-Sample t-test, Independent Samples t-test, and Pearson Correlation Coefficient), the results indicated that intermediate school students possess a high level of cognitive speed. Furthermore, the results revealed a statistically significant difference between males and females in the cognitive speed test, in favor of males.
