Abstract

This study presents a summary of the political and ethical advice and precepts found in "Kitab al-Siyasa aw al-Ishara fi Tadbir al-Imara" (The Book of Politics or Guidance on the Management of the Emirate) by al-Hadrami (d. 489 AH). These precepts are directed to rulers and offer them political guidance on matters such as governance, the army, the ministry, and how a ruler should interact with his subjects, taking into account the study's objectives. The study explores the question of how consultation should be conducted and the qualities of an advisor, as well as the necessary conditions for the well-being of the subjects, including love, contentment, anger, and the management of courtiers and soldiers. The study's hypothesis is based on finding a sound method for governing the subjects during a ruler's reign. The research questions will be addressed within the text. The methodology involves presenting the material in a narrative style, followed by an explanation of the objectives and a summary of the most important findings derived from the study of the advice and precepts. The significance of studying this book lies in shedding light on a lost manuscript that was recently edited in Lebanon. This rare book by al-Muradi al-Hadrami provides the sultan and his court with political and literary advice and precepts.
