Hydrological Analysis of the Discharge of the Tigris River Between the Two Zab Rivers
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to analyze the hydrological characteristics of the discharges of the Tigris River in the reach between the Zab rivers, due to the significant water and agricultural importance of this region in Iraq. The study relied on daily and monthly discharge data spanning several years, and it was analyzed using statistical methods to detect temporal and spatial variability in river flow and to identify its patterns of change. The results showed that discharges are clearly affected by climatic factors, particularly rainfall amounts and temperature, in addition to the impact of reservoirs and dams constructed on the river course and its tributaries. The study also revealed a noticeable fluctuation between wet and dry seasons, reflecting the instability of surface runoff in the area. This analysis contributes to a more accurate understanding of river behavior, supports water management, improves efficiency, reduces flood risk, and aids sustainable decision making in Iraq sector.
