Abstract

The study examines population growth and its relationship with family characteristics in Al-Hawija District during the period 1997–2025, focusing on family size, living standards, and education. The findings show a continuous population increase despite fluctuations caused by political and economic conditions. A strong relationship was found between family size and population growth, with larger families associated with higher fertility rates. Rural areas tend to have larger families compared to urban areas. The study also revealed that income does not follow a consistent pattern in influencing population growth. In contrast, education, especially female education, plays a significant role in reducing population growth rates. Social traditions remain a key factor in preferring large families. The study adopts a descriptive and spatial analytical approach. Spatial variations reflect differences in socio-economic conditions. The research recommends promoting population awareness and family planning to achieve sustainable development.
