Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the efforts of Iraqi universities and their interest in Islamic manuscript heritage and all related aspects, including its study, verification, preservation, and maintenance. This is achieved through the establishment of departments, centers, and units within Iraqi universities dedicated to reviving this heritage and promoting a culture of verifying and studying Islamic manuscripts. The study also highlights the most important manuscript centers and their role in preserving and maintaining manuscripts in the Iraqi provinces. This study employs a historical-analytical approach. The study yielded several key findings, including: Many Iraqi universities have conducted training courses and workshops for those interested in verifying and preserving manuscript heritage, and manuscript preservation and study units have been established, particularly within faculties of arts and Islamic studies. A center for reviving scientific heritage was also established at the University of Baghdad, which is concerned with the verification of scientific manuscripts, and the addition of a methodology for the verification of manuscripts within the postgraduate studies curricula at the master’s and doctoral levels in some universities, and the establishment of a special department for manuscripts and historical documents in the College of Archaeology at the University of Kufa, which is the first specialized department in Iraqi universities, and a special department for the verification and maintenance of manuscripts was also established at the Islamic University in Najaf, in addition to the great interest in manuscripts in Iraqi libraries and book houses.
