The Effect of Grammatical Cause in Syntactic Interpretation according to Sibawayh
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study seeks to demonstrate the impact of ‘illah (grammatical reasoning) on syntactic interpretation (tawjīh naḥwī) in the book of Sībawayh. The aim of this study is to reveal the role that grammatical ‘ilal (causes or justifications) play an important role in shaping syntactic analysis and the influence they exert between the elements involved. The Book of Sībawayh serves as the primary field for this investigation.
This study addresses a selection of grammatical ‘ilal that have had a significant impact on syntactic direction, such as the ‘illah for the prohibition of nouns from being in the jussive mood (known as the ‘illah of heaviness), and the ‘illah for not using the letter wāw to indicate the nominative case in dual forms (known as the ‘illah of distinction). These two reasons in particular received considerable focus in this study. Additionally, other grammatical causes were also examined, including the ‘illah of analogy, the ‘illah of resemblance, the ‘illah of substitution, and the ‘illah of analogy-based reasoning—all of which have left their mark on grammatical interpretation.
