Abstract

This study aimed to identify competitive anxiety and its relationship to academic progress among university students. The research sample consisted of 320 students from Tikrit University. The researcher prepared a scale for competitive anxiety of 35 items, and a scale for academic progress of 30 items. The researcher tested the validity and reliability of the items by presenting them to a specialized group of referees in the field of educational psychology, measurement and evaluation. The researcher reached a set of results and conclusions, including: that competitive anxiety is a condition present among university students and is linked to many reasons, including obtaining competitive grades and searching for the best, and that academic progress among university students is linked to their psychological and cognitive state, which is reflected in their educational reality, and that competitive anxiety had an inverse relationship with academic progress, which is a condition present among university students and needs further studies. The researcher recommended a number of recommendations, including: paying attention to the topic of competitive anxiety among university students and its impact on the levels of university students in terms of achievement and scientific achievement. He presented a number of proposals, including: conducting research that investigates the relationship of academic progress with general and specific problems of students, conducting a study on students the impact of competitive anxiety on their academic life.
