Abstract

Modern technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), is recognized as one of the primary global drivers of economic development across various sectors, especially agriculture. AI is defined as the capability of computer systems to simulate human intelligence processes such as analysis, learning, and decision-making, thereby opening up extensive opportunities to advance agricultural methods and enhance resource sustainability. This research aims to highlight the impact of artificial intelligence in supporting agricultural development in Iraq by examining key practical applications of this technology and analyzing its effects on improving the efficiency of natural resource utilization, increasing agricultural productivity, and contributing to food security. The significance of this study stems from the pressing challenges facing Iraq's agricultural sector, such as water scarcity, climate change, and the shrinking of arable land. These challenges necessitate the adoption of advanced technologies capable of addressing and overcoming such obstacles. The research employs an analytical methodology based on the review of contemporary literature and international reports, in addition to analyzing existing initiatives in Iraq, including smart agriculture projects that utilize sensor-based systems, smart irrigation management, and hydroponic farming. The study recommends the adoption of national strategies to support digital transformation in the agricultural sector, the expansion of AI technologies, and the training of Iraqi agricultural personnel to manage these technologies effectively, thus achieving sustainable agricultural development that strengthens national food security.
