Verbal Elaboration in the Hadiths of Sahih al-Bukhari: A Rhetorical Study
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research deals with verbal elaboration in the hadiths of Sahih Al-Bukhari because this type of style has an impact on revealing and clarifying the aesthetics of the prophetic text, and its strong influence on the listener and reader. Verbal elaboration refers to those phrases that come at the beginning or end of the hadith, to highlight rhetorical purposes such as generalization, introduction, summary, clarification, explanation, or suspense, through a concise and eloquent linguistic formulation. Elaboration is also considered a rhetorical style, as it is a section of prolixity related to the science of semantics in Arabic rhetoric. The approach adopted in this study is an analytical, deductive rhetorical approach. It is analyzed according to the mechanisms of semantics and rhetoric to uncover the phenomenon of rhetorical exaggeration at the beginning or end of a hadith, using selected examples from the chapters on worship (intention, purification, prayer, etc.). The study approached the subject from several perspectives, starting with the word, from language to terminology, rhetorical exaggeration among rhetoricians, exaggeration in the context of prayer, exaggeration in the context of the unseen, and exaggeration in will and desire.
