Abstract

Air transport is important in the services it provides in the field of transporting passengers, goods, luggage and air mail from one city to another and from one country to another, which led to facilitating the transportation process and increasing international ties and relations, which in turn helped spread civilization and transfer ideas and all that is new of scientific innovations and cultural. Air transport requires studying the location of the airport from which planes take off and landing and analyzing the factors affecting the construction and development in order to keep pace with the rapid technological development and the burdens resulting from this development and repercussions on the country or region and the city in which the airport is located, and this is what made the researcher focus his attention on air transport, and the Baghdad and Erbil international airports were chosen as a study area in order to analyze geographical factors and evaluate their positive and negative effects on the establishment and operation of the airport. One of the most important findings of the research is that Baghdad airport is more active in terms of transporting people because it is located in the capital and is more close and used by other provinces, which amounted to 194,871.2 passengers, while Erbil airport is 028,023.1 passengers. The capacity of this airport reached about 795 million passengers annually and 75 thousand tons of goods, which is more than the capacity of Erbil Airport, which amounts to 3 million passengers annually.
