Abstract

Maps are considered a visual base for geographical information.، and in order to understand this base, where the features must be represented on them with appropriate symbols, showing their characteristics and relationships between the, it is necessary to choose the appropriate cartographic representation of the data, and the appropriate symbols for these methods that make reading the map easy. The aim of the research is show the cartographic representation of the population characteristics in Kirkuk Governorate, and to create maps of the population distribution in the best and most appropriate ways, the population of Kirkuk Governorate reached 1.770.765 people for the year 2023، and the numerical and relative distribution of the population in the districts of Kirkuk Governorate، the environmental distribution، and the age structure of the population were represented using the color gradient model, circles and relative columns, where we find that these methods were the most appropriate methods in the example of population characteristics between the districts of Kirkuk Governorate, with the exception of the relative columns, which were not suitable for the qualitative structure. We found that proportional constituencies served the purpose better.
